Stupid Pheidippides

Legend has it that in 490BC, Pheidippides ran approximately 25 miles from Marathon to Athens, to announce the news of Greek victory over the Persians in the Battle of Marathon. Sadly, he barely had the words out of his mouth, when he collapsed and died from exhaustion. Despite his fate, over 2,500 years later, some of us are still crazy enough to continue the tradition of the " marathon", which is now measured at a standardized distance of 26.2 miles.

Want to blame someone when you're at mile 25 and you don't think you can take another step? Blame Pheidippides. He's the guy who started this crazy sport. Stupid Pheidippides!
